DARK AND MOODY STYLED SESSION

Our feature today comes from one of our members Kaliente Designs. We love the bold and dark colours of this styled session. Kaliente Designs tells us more about the inspiration behind the shoot!

As I wedding designer, we tend to follow trends and that sometimes means that clients want the same thing over and over again. I wanted to work with something different, and Navy is making a big come back! As it's a strong colour, brides are sometimes scared to be too bold. That is what I love about styled shoots, you can be so creative and think out of the box and it helps all the people around you think outside the box too.

All the suppliers involved with this styled shoot are long-time colleagues and when the Covid hit, we all felt a little flat so coming together for this shoot was incredible. I have been in this industry many years doing flowers/ design/ décor/ ballroom dancing, though my only focus now is Designing – I even taught at The SA School of Weddings for many years.

With all of this under my belt and with this incredible team, I wanted to create an experience, a table that was interactive, décor you could eat from, evoking all 5 senses as you sat down to eat. The Twilight of sunset was my inspiration, the dark moody navy's against an array of jewel tones offset with gold for the setting sun.

Kate, from Sugar and Ice took our palette and created a sensational a cake. Alet, from Candlelite mixed new tones in her candles to match the mood and feel of the set up (She creates custom colours for clients, so different to standard white). Kate, from The chocolate Tier created our mouth-watering dessert table to finish off this incredible intimate experience.

The talented Tanja Rootman did us all justice and was the perfect photographer for this shoot. Eyes on make-up created that dramatic but elegant finishing touches to the models and coupled with off with the amazing dresses offered and supplied by Fynbos Bridal JHB – it was the perfect finish to an incredible day.

The team at Blueberry Hill Hotel was always there with a helping hand and their urban feel is perfect for any modern bride – not to mention the views from their 360 open-air Venue – Halo are simply breath taking.

I must also thank Urban Scape Studios for the hair and OS Man with their bespoke suit. Not to forget our Models who were a blast to work with. Leyla Van Greuning & Bodean Peters. And the ever-stunning Cecile Cloete, that proves not every bride needs to be size zero to be gorgeous, her poise and grace beams from inside her onto the printed page. Not to forget our dashing Jurie Cronjé.

My advice is dare to dream, dare to be different BOLD!
